Nearly three years after unshackling the telecom industry with dirt-cheap data tariffs and free-voice offerings, Mukesh Ambani is now rolling out mega plans for the next phase of growth of his digital businesses. These are centred around telecom, and retail — both physical stores as well as e commerce.
On the table is a high-speed optic fibre internet (offerring speeds between 100mbps and 1,000mbps), new movie premiers for home users on the same day as their theatre release, and premium TV content such as Netflix, Hotstar and Amazon Prime — all bundled together with prices in the Rs 700-10,000 range per month, through a new digital set-top box.
The petroleum and energy giant expects the consumer business mainly telecom and retail, to grow at a quick pace as it looks to increase their share in the overall revenues to nearly 50 %and 32% in fiscal year 2018-2019.
